What makes this journey
The Maasai Mara anchors the journey's first half. Three days in a private conservancy where big cat density is the highest in Kenya and the landscape is entirely yours. Morning and afternoon drives, and a bush dinner under the stars on your final Mara evening.
Stone Town, Zanzibar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Arab, Indian, African, and Portuguese history has been layered over centuries into one extraordinary place. A full day with a local guide through its carved doors, its alleyways, and its waterfront evening market.
Zanzibar's north coast at Nungwi is where the Indian Ocean is at its most turquoise and the sand is at its whitest. Five days at a pace the island insists on: unhurried, warm, and deeply restorative after the intensity of the Mara.
Mnemba Atoll, just offshore from the north coast, is one of the finest snorkelling spots in the Indian Ocean. Coral gardens, sea turtles, and warm clear water. Available on request alongside traditional dhow sailing and deep-sea fishing.
Day by day
Your Anvir Host meets you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transfers you privately to your hotel. A welcome dinner this evening, and an early night. Tomorrow morning the Mara is waiting.
Morning flight into the Maasai Mara. Your guide meets you at the airstrip and you are in the game drives within the hour. The Mara's grasslands are wide and the afternoon light is extraordinary. The resident lion prides and cheetah families are active, and your guide knows exactly where to find them.
A full day in the Mara. Dawn game drive as the world wakes up around you, back to camp for a leisurely lunch, then out again in the afternoon as the plains come alive. In season between July and October, the Migration herds fill the horizon and the atmosphere in the Mara is electric. Year-round, the predator activity here is exceptional.
A third full day in the Mara. The more time you spend in this ecosystem, the more it reveals. Morning drives into the grasslands following the resident predators, an afternoon at leisure back at camp, and an evening sundowner as the sun drops behind the escarpment. A fitting close to your time in Kenya's most iconic wildlife landscape.
A morning flight via Nairobi to Zanzibar. Arriving in Stone Town by early evening, you step from the wild into one of the most atmospheric port cities in the Indian Ocean world. The contrast is deliberate and it is striking.
Stone Town rewards a full day of unhurried exploration. The city's labyrinthine alleyways open into small squares and reveal carved Zanzibari doors that tell the story of centuries of merchant culture. The old slave market, the Arab Fort, and the spice bazaar are all within walking distance. This evening, the Forodhani Gardens waterfront market transforms at sunset: fishermen lay out the catch of the day on open grills, the harbour lights come on, and Stone Town shows you its most alive and convivial face.
A short transfer brings you to Zanzibar's north coast. The difference is immediate: white coral sand, turquoise Indian Ocean water, and a pace of life that dissolves everything that came before it. The rest of the day is yours.
A day with no schedule. The Indian Ocean in the morning, shade and lunch, the ocean again in the afternoon. For those who want to explore, snorkelling at Mnemba Atoll is exceptional, a traditional dhow at sunset is one of the most beautiful ways to end a day anywhere in the world, and the seafood at the beach restaurants each evening is outstanding.
Another day entirely yours. A morning swim, a slow breakfast, the ocean again. The north coast has a rhythm that is impossible not to surrender to.
After a leisurely breakfast and a slow morning, a private airport transfer to Zanzibar Airport for your onward flight. Depending on your flight itinerary, your Anvir Host will arrange the timing to suit your departure. Ten days. The Mara and the Indian Ocean.
