What makes this journey

Highlights

  • Nairobi opens the journey with the David Sheldrick Elephant Trust, where orphaned baby elephants are raised by keepers who know each one by name. One of the most quietly moving wildlife experiences in East Africa, and an unexpectedly powerful way to begin a safari.

  • Amboseli National Park is where Africa's largest elephant herds roam against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. On a clear morning, the sight of a hundred elephants beneath a snow-capped peak is one Kenya never lets you forget.

  • Tsavo West is Kenya's largest national park: vast, red-earthed, and unhurried. The famous salt lick waterhole draws elephant, buffalo, lion, and zebra through the day and deep into the night. There is nothing quite like watching Africa arrive at the water in the dark.

  • Diani Beach on the Indian Ocean coast is where the journey exhales. White coral sand, turquoise water, and a pace of life that asks nothing of you. A private beach dinner is arranged for your final evening on the coast.

Day by day

Your journey, day by day.

Day 1 Arrival in Nairobi

Your Anvir Host meets you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transfers you privately to the Dusit Princess, one of Nairobi's most stylish hotels in the Westlands district. The rest of this evening is yours. A welcome dinner at the hotel, and an early night before Kenya begins properly tomorrow.

Day 2 Nairobi: the Sheldrick Trust and the Giraffe Centre

Morning at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, where orphaned baby elephants are raised by keepers who sleep beside them at night. Each elephant has a name, a keeper, and a story. Then on to the Giraffe Centre to feed endangered Rothschild giraffes by hand. Lunch in Karen. The rest of the afternoon is yours. This evening, dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3 Into Amboseli: Mt. Kilimanjaro views

Drive to Amboseli National Park, where the landscape opens into one of Kenya's most iconic vistas: elephant herds, open savannah, and Kilimanjaro rising snow-capped above everything. Angama Amboseli sits in the Kimana Wildlife Sanctuary with private access and almost no other vehicles. Afternoon game drive at leisure.

Day 4 Amboseli: the elephants and the mountain

A full day in Amboseli. Dawn drive into the national park proper, where Africa's largest elephant herds roam against the mountain. Afternoon game drive in the Kimana Sanctuary. This evening, sundowners are set up privately in the bush for the two of you, as the mountain turns amber in the fading light.

Day 5 Tsavo West: red earth and the salt lick

Drive into Tsavo West National Park, Kenya's largest. The landscape changes entirely: red volcanic earth, baobab trees, and the extraordinary Mzima Springs. Salt Lick Safari Lodge is built on stilts above a waterhole. The animals come to you: elephant, buffalo, zebra, and lion through the night.

Day 6 Tsavo: a full day in the park

Morning and afternoon game drives into Tsavo West. The mane-less lions of Tsavo are one of Kenya's most distinctive wildlife stories. Tsavo holds one of the largest elephant populations in East Africa, and the red dust that covers them gives the herds an otherworldly appearance. Evening at the waterhole.

Day 7 The coast: welcome to Diani

Road transfer south through the Shimba Hills to Diani Beach on the Indian Ocean coast. Swahili Beach is set directly on the Diani shoreline, with beautifully designed rooms, a pristine stretch of white sand, and the Indian Ocean at your doorstep. Arrival in time for lunch and your first afternoon by the Indian Ocean. This evening, a private beach dinner is arranged for the two of you.

Day 8 Diani: your ocean, your day

Today is entirely yours. The Indian Ocean, the white sand, and no agenda. Optional activities include snorkelling, a glass-bottom boat trip to the reef, a coastal dhow at sunset, or a forest walk to see the Colobus monkeys in the trees behind the beach.

Day 9 Diani: slow and still

Another day at the coast. Swahili Beach sits on one of Diani's finest stretches of sand, and the staff make it their business to know what you need before you ask. Morning swim, a long breakfast, afternoon reading. The coast has its own rhythm and it is deeply restorative.

Day 10 Check out and fly to Nairobi

Check out after a final slow breakfast by the ocean. Transfer to Ukunda Airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi. A comfortable day room is waiting on arrival — time to shower, rest, and prepare for your international departure. Private airport transfer included.
