What makes this journey
Amboseli National Park opens the journey beneath Kilimanjaro, where Africa's largest elephant herds roam against the still-glaciated peak. The landscape is iconic in the truest sense: wide open, luminous, and unlike anywhere else on the continent.
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, holding 25,000 animals within a 260 square kilometre bowl. Black rhino, lion, flamingos on the soda lake, and leopard on the forested rim. Two days inside a world that has no equivalent anywhere on earth.
The Serengeti across its two sections carries the greatest year-round wildlife density on earth. The central Seronera holds resident lion prides numbering twenty or more. The North Serengeti, where the landscape rolls into hills and the Mara River cuts through, is where the Migration masses between July and October.
The Maasai Mara closes the journey in a the Mara where the grasslands feel boundless and the light at dawn is extraordinary. Three final days following the resident prides and cheetah families, ending with a private bush dinner in the wild.
Day by day
Your Anvir Host meets you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transfers you privately to your hotel. After weeks of anticipation, the journey begins tonight. A welcome dinner at the hotel, an early night, and tomorrow morning Kenya opens up in front of you.
An early morning drive south from Nairobi towards the shadow of Kilimanjaro. As the plains of Amboseli open up ahead of you, the mountain appears on the horizon, snow-capped and vast. Two days here with Africa's largest elephant herds moving freely beneath it: dawn game drives when the light is extraordinary, a bush breakfast in the field, a Maasai village visit, and sundowners in the open as Kilimanjaro turns gold in the late afternoon.
Road transfer south across the border into Tanzania, arriving in Arusha by afternoon. Arusha Coffee Lodge sits in a working coffee plantation at the foot of Mount Meru. This evening: dinner, rest, and the anticipation of the Serengeti circuit ahead.
Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. 25,000 animals within 260 square kilometres: black rhino, lion prides, flamingos on the soda lake, and leopard on the forested rim. Two full days inside.
Drive into the Serengeti's central section, the year-round wildlife heartland. The highest resident predator density on the continent: lion prides, cheetah families, wild dog packs, and leopard in the acacia trees along the Seronera River.
Drive north to the Serengeti's most dramatic landscape. The Mara River corridor, the rolling hills, and the wildebeest herds that mass here before and after the Kenya crossing. Between July and October this is the epicentre of the Migration.
Fly north across the border into Kenya's Maasai Mara. Three final days in the Mara ecosystem, where the grasslands feel boundless and the light at dawn is extraordinary. The resident lion prides and cheetah families are exceptional year-round, and in season the Migration herds fill the horizon. Morning and afternoon game drives daily. On your final evening, sundowners as the sun drops behind the escarpment.
Morning flight to Nairobi for your international connection. Depending on your flight schedule, a day room at the Crowne Plaza close to the airport will be provided for your convenience, giving you time to rest and freshen up before your onward journey.
