What makes this journey
Samburu National Reserve in Kenya's remote north is where the landscape shifts completely: dry acacia country, red earth, and the Ewaso Nyiro River. Home to the Special Five species found nowhere else in Kenya, including the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, and the extraordinary gerenuk.
Ol Pejeta Conservancy in the Laikipia highlands holds East Africa's largest black rhino population and is home to the world's last two northern white rhinos. Beyond rhino, the conservancy carries one of Africa's most honest conservation stories: what it takes, what it costs, and what it is building.
The Maasai Mara is the journey's centrepiece. Three days in a private conservancy where the grasslands stretch unbroken and lion prides move through them at dawn. A private bush dinner on your final evening, set in the wild with Africa entirely around you.
Lake Nakuru is Kenya's finest rhino sanctuary, holding both black and white rhino alongside lion and leopard. When the lake conditions are right, the alkaline shore turns pink with thousands of flamingos. A park that consistently delivers more than it promises.
Day by day
You arrive into your hotel, Nairobi's most graceful neighbourhood, named after Karen Blixen herself. Day 2 begins gently: hand-feeding endangered Rothschild giraffes at the Giraffe Centre, then a morning at the David Sheldrick Elephant Trust, where orphaned elephants are raised back to full health in the company of the people who love them. It is genuinely moving in a way that surprises most visitors. Lunch in Karen, then an afternoon in Nairobi National Park, the only wildlife reserve in the world within a capital city boundary, where lions and rhinos roam against a skyline.
A morning flight north carries you to Samburu, one of Kenya's most remote and rarely crowded wildlife areas. The landscape shifts completely: dry acacia country, red earth, and the Ewaso Nyiro River cutting through it all. This is where Kenya's Special Five live, species found nowhere else: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and the extraordinary gerenuk, which stands upright on its hind legs to browse the highest branches. Ashnil Samburu Camp is built directly on the riverbank. Elephants wade through the water below your veranda every morning.
Set against the dramatic silhouette of Mount Kenya, Ol Pejeta Conservancy holds East Africa's largest black rhino population, and home to Fatu and Najin, the world's last two northern white rhinos. Standing near them changes something in you. Beyond the rhino, the conservancy holds the Big Five and a chimpanzee sanctuary unlike anything else in Kenya. Your guide takes you beyond the game drive and into the living story of what conservation actually costs, and what it is building for the future.
You fly into a Maasai Mara for three full days, where the grasslands stretch to the horizon and the wildlife is extraordinary year-round. Your guide knows the resident lion prides, the cheetah families, and the leopard territories across this ecosystem. Morning and afternoon drives daily. One afternoon, a visit to a nearby Maasai village, a genuine and unhurried encounter with the people who have coexisted with this wildlife for generations. On your final evening in the Mara, gather for sundowners as the sun drops behind the escarpment, the perfect close to your time in Kenya's most iconic landscape. A hot air balloon safari is available should you wish to see the Mara from above at dawn.
The drive south takes you through the Great Rift Valley, one of the most dramatic landscapes in Africa. Lake Nakuru National Park is Kenya's finest rhino sanctuary, holding both black and white rhino in exceptional numbers alongside lion and leopard. When the lake conditions are right, thousands of flamingos turn the alkaline shore pink. Two full days in a park that rewards patience and delivers surprises to those who take their time.
A scenic road transfer back to Nairobi through the Central Highlands. On arrival, a comfortable day room at the Crowne Plaza close to the airport is ready for you, giving you time to shower, rest, and gather yourself before your international flight. Private airport transfer to the terminal included. Twelve days. Five of Kenya's greatest wildlife destinations. Most clients start planning their return before the plane lifts off.
