East Africa · Tanzania

The world's greatest
stage for wildlife.
And for silence.

The Serengeti. Ngorongoro. Zanzibar. Tanzania holds a concentration of wild places that exists nowhere else on earth. Most visitors see the highlights. Anvir takes you deeper.

"Tanzania has a way of making you feel very small, and completely at peace with that."

Tanzania is more than a destination. It is a country that operates on a different scale entirely. The Serengeti alone is larger than Switzerland. The Ngorongoro Crater holds a complete ecosystem inside an ancient volcano. Zanzibar sits off the coast like a thought that wandered away from the mainland. You could spend a month here and feel you've only scratched the surface.

What Tanzania does particularly well is silence. In the southern parks, in the western wilderness, in the conservancies that surround the northern circuit, there are places where you can go an entire morning without seeing another vehicle. That kind of space is increasingly rare. Tanzania has protected it.

The people here are some of the warmest in East Africa. The Chagga communities on Kilimanjaro's slopes. The Maasai who have coexisted with the Serengeti's wildlife for centuries. The Hadzabe of Lake Eyasi, one of the last hunter-gatherer communities on the continent. When you travel with Anvir, you meet Tanzania the way it should be met: privately, unhurriedly, and with people who understand what they're showing you.

Six landscapes. One country.

Tanzania's most iconic park and the stage for the Great Migration. Nearly two million animals. Endless plains. A landscape so vast it forces perspective. The Serengeti is not one experience but many, different in every season and in every corner of its 14,750 square kilometres.

Zanzibar Archipelago

Stone Town's ancient alleys and spice markets. The white sand of Nungwi and Kendwa. A culture shaped by Swahili, Arab, Indian and Portuguese influence over centuries. Zanzibar is the most natural close to a Tanzania safari. A week there feels like an entirely separate journey.

The moments Anvir builds into your Kenya itinerary that you won't find on a standard tour.

Maasai Mara · Signature
The Great Migration

Between July and October, nearly two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle cross from Tanzania into Kenya's Maasai Mara. The Mara River crossings, when thousands surge the crocodile-filled water at once, are considered one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth. We position you in a private camp with guides who know the crossing points, and time everything around the season, not a fixed schedule.

Maasai Mara · Dawn
Hot Air Balloon Safari
+

At first light, the Mara is a different world. A private balloon ride drifts you silently above the migration herds, the Mara River and the acacia-dotted plains. You see Kenya from the angle no vehicle can reach. A bush breakfast follows, served in the wild. One of the most requested experiences on earth. We handle every detail.

Nairobi · Opening Day
David Sheldrick Elephant Trust
+

Orphaned baby elephants raised by keepers who sleep beside them at night, each with a name, a keeper, and a story. Noela personally recommends this as a must-do for many Anvir Kenya itineraries. When used to open a safari, it sets a tone for the rest of the journey that guests consistently say they didn't expect.

Reteti · Community Conservation
Reteti Elephant Sanctuary
+

Africa's first community-owned elephant sanctuary, run entirely by the Samburu people in northern Kenya. Reteti is raw, genuine, and deeply rooted in the local community that built it. Rescued elephants, community rangers, and a conservation story that belongs entirely to the people whose land these elephants share. A strong addition to any northern Kenya itinerary.

Maasai Mara · From Above
Helicopter Safari
+

A helicopter repositioning between camps, or a dedicated flight over the Mara, the Rift Valley, or Amboseli, transforms the scale of Kenya from something you see on a drive into something you truly comprehend. The aerial perspective of the Migration, or Kilimanjaro rising above the clouds, is one of the most requested Anvir additions for clients travelling at a premium pace.

Laikipia · Private Conservancy
Horseback Safari
+

In the private conservancies of Laikipia, you can move through the bush in a way that most visitors to Kenya never experience: on horseback, at the same level as the wildlife, with no engine noise between you and the landscape. Ride alongside zebra, giraffe and even buffalo on the open plains. For experienced riders, this is Kenya at its most intimate.

Watamu · Kenyan Coast
Deep Sea Fishing
+

Watamu, on Kenya's northern coast, is one of East Africa's premier deep sea fishing destinations. Marlin, sailfish and tuna in waters so rich they've made this a quiet legend among serious sport fishermen. A natural add-on for any safari that ends on the coast, and a wildly different way to experience Kenya's extraordinary range.

Kenya safari experience

Great Migration crossing, Maasai Mara

Best time to visit Kenya.

Kenya's wildlife is present year-round. The season shapes the experience. Here's how to choose yours.

Jan – Mar
Peak

Dry season with short grass and superb game viewing across all parks. Calving season draws predators to the Mara and Amboseli. Fewer crowds than mid-year. Kilimanjaro views from Amboseli are clearest in January and February.

Apr – May
Long Rains

Kenya's green season. Landscapes are lush, rates are lower, and the bush feels genuinely private. Birdlife peaks. Game viewing remains strong in conservancies with off-road access. A good season for those who want solitude and don't mind the odd afternoon shower.

Jun – Oct
Peak · Migration

The Great Migration enters the Maasai Mara from July, with river crossings through October. The most sought safari window on earth. Book six months ahead for the best camps. Peak pricing, fully justified. The Mara in August stays with you.

Nov – Dec
Shoulder

Short rains arrive in November but clear quickly. December brings dry conditions and good game viewing. The festive season is ideal for families. Diani Beach is warm and calm. A natural pairing for a safari-and-coast journey before the year ends.
