Overview

Cradled in the Great Rift Valley and wrapped in a lush fringe of woodland and rocky escarpments, Lake Nakuru National Park is a dazzling tapestry of flamingo-pink shores, acacia forests, and dramatic vistas. It may be one of Kenya’s smaller parks, but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in charm, biodiversity, and accessibility.

Once known primarily for its vast flocks of flamingos, Lake Nakuru has evolved into a sanctuary for endangered wildlife, including both black and white rhinos. Its soda-rich lake, fed by nearby rivers and hot springs, attracts hundreds of bird species, making it a birder’s paradise. Yet it’s also a game-lover’s delight—with lions lounging in the sun, elusive leopards in the treetops, and herds of buffalo grazing peacefully against a photogenic backdrop.

For travelers who want a safari experience without venturing too far from the capital—or those looking to combine wildlife, birdwatching, and breathtaking scenery—Lake Nakuru is a must-visit.
