Hell’s Gate National Park
Kenya’s Rift Valley, south of Lake Naivasha and about 90 km northwest of Nairobi.
Overview
Hell’s Gate National Park is one of Kenya’s most unusual and dramatic landscapes. Known for towering cliffs, geothermal gorges, steam vents, and wide-open plains, it feels like a natural playground carved from ancient volcanic activity.
Covering just 68 km², it’s compact but full of character. The park is also one of the few places in Kenya where visitors can walk, cycle, or rock-climb safely inside a wildlife reserve; big predators are rare here, which makes exploration feel adventurous yet comfortable.
The scenery is so striking that it inspired parts of Disney’s The Lion King and provides the backdrop for countless photoshoots and outdoor adventures.

Cycling routes are smoother.
Gorges are safer to explore.
The rainy season makes some areas slippery or inaccessible, and sudden flash floods can affect gorge walks.
