This 10-day Rwanda Adventure Safari offers an unforgettable journey across Rwanda’s most remarkable landscapes and national parks. The safari combines wildlife viewing, primate trekking, cultural experiences, and scenic drives through the country’s famous rolling hills.

During this adventure you will explore Rwanda’s three major national parks: Akagera National Park, Volcanoes National Park, and Nyungwe National Park. The experience includes thrilling wildlife game drives, gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking, and chimpanzee trekking.

The journey also includes visits to Lake Kivu, Kigali city, tea plantations, waterfalls, and the famous Nyungwe canopy walk. This road safari allows travelers to experience Rwanda’s rich wildlife, breathtaking scenery, and vibrant culture while interacting with local communities along the way.

Itinerary

    01

    Arrival in Kigali

    Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will go through customs and immigration before meeting our company representative who will warmly welcome you to the “Land of a Thousand Hills.”

    You will then be transferred to your hotel in Kigali for dinner and overnight.

    02

    Transfer to Akagera National Park and Boat Safari

    After breakfast, depart Kigali and drive to Akagera National Park, a journey of approximately 2 to 3 hours.

    Upon arrival, enjoy a short game drive before checking into your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon you will enjoy a boat safari on Lake Ihema where you can observe hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and buffaloes along the water banks.

    Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

    03

    Full Day Game Drive in Akagera National Park

    After an early breakfast, depart for a full day game drive in Akagera National Park.

    The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelope species, lions, and rhinos. With over 500 bird species, Akagera is also a paradise for bird lovers.

    Enjoy a picnic lunch within the park before continuing with afternoon wildlife viewing. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

    04

    Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

    After breakfast, depart Akagera and drive towards Volcanoes National Park via Kigali.

    Along the way, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about Rwanda’s history and the events of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

    After lunch continue to Musanze with scenic views of Rwanda’s rolling hills before checking in to your lodge.

    05

    Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Experience

    After breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines.

    You will then enter the forest to search for a gorilla family. The trek may take between two and six hours depending on the gorillas’ movements. Once found, you will spend one hour observing them in their natural habitat.

    After returning to the lodge for lunch, enjoy a cultural visit to experience traditional Rwandan music, dance, and local traditions.

    06

    Golden Monkey Trek and Transfer to Lake Kivu

    After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing before starting the golden monkey trekking experience.

    Golden monkeys are playful primates found in the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park. After the trek, return for lunch and later drive to Lake Kivu where you will check in to your hotel and enjoy the lakeside scenery.

    07

    Transfer to Nyungwe National Park and Boat Trip

    After breakfast, depart Lake Kivu and travel south towards Nyungwe National Park while enjoying scenic views of Lake Kivu and the Congo border landscapes.

    Stop at Kibuye for a boat ride on Lake Kivu where you will visit small islands and observe numerous bird species.

    Later proceed to Nyungwe National Park and check in to your lodge.

    08

    Chimpanzee Trekking and Tea Plantation Visit

    After an early breakfast, transfer to Nyungwe National Park headquarters for a briefing before beginning the chimpanzee trekking experience.

    Nyungwe Forest is home to more than 13 species of primates and is one of Africa’s oldest rainforests. Once the chimpanzees are located, you will spend one hour observing them.

    In the afternoon, visit the Gisakura tea plantations where you will learn about tea cultivation and processing.

    09

    Waterfall Hike and Nyungwe Canopy Walk

    After breakfast, enjoy a guided waterfall hike within Nyungwe Forest. The hike takes you through lush rainforest trails with chances to spot birds and primates.

    After lunch, proceed for the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walk. This suspended bridge approximately 90 meters above the forest offers spectacular views of the rainforest canopy.

    Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

    10

    Return to Kigali and Departure

    After breakfast, check out and begin the journey back to Kigali.

    Along the way visit the King’s Palace Museum to learn about Rwanda’s traditional monarchy and cultural heritage.

    After lunch continue to Kigali where you may enjoy some shopping at local markets before being transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
